Edge of Thorns 3 - Pt 34Part 34
No, he's definitely telling the truth.
Nathan rose from his seat. It wasn't fair, what he'd put Gabriel through, especially when he knew in his gut that it wasn't his fault. Alton's suspicions or not, his guardian angel just wasn't the manipulative type, and the writer moved to the seat beside him again, touching his shoulder.
"I believe you," Nathan said again. "And I'm sorry for all that. Personally, I think it's Raphael behind this."
"Probably," Gabriel agreed quietly, wiping his eyes. "But it's still true that Lumiel's fears are reasonable. Though I'm seldom portrayed in direct conflict with him, it's still generally believed that he is my enemy. The same with Raphael. Michael is the only one who is constantly portrayed fighting Lucifer." He drew a deep breath and turned to his charge. "Perhaps we should both approach him next, just to be sure. Belief aside, Micah still loves Alton, and if he was the one to set Superbia on her schemes, then he will feel

No one said a word until they heard the door slam and the music coming through the floorboards above them. Snow was especially quiet, torn between offering concern for his injuries and remaining cautious. Even once Alistair had vanished upstairs, she still turned to the others -- Zacharriah in particular -- with a worried glance, chewing on her lip. "I think I see now why you wanted us to watch him. He really is a sociopath, isn't he?" She looked back towards the stairs. "I don't know how to react to him now..."
"What made you think he was joking in the first place?" Parker asked her, his eyebrow raised. Snow shot him a glare.
"Have you ever seen him with your Sight?" she asked incredulously in return. The other wizard crossed his arms and nodded emphatically.
"Damn right I have! And it doesn't bother me."
"And you still trust him?"
Parker scowled. "I said it before, and I'll say it again: Alistair has never steered me wrong. He's my friend, an

I came here to ask; I should ask.
Nathan swallowed so loudly, he was sure the angel heard it, but he turned to face Gabriel and did his best to smile, despite what he was about to do. "It's about Alton. He's... well, to say he's worried about the Sins is a bit of an understatement. He came over for lunch today and practically broke down in my kitchen." He rubbed the back of his head. "Is it normal for the Devil to be this paranoid? I mean, because knowing that's who he is makes it all even weirder."
"It's unusual for Lumiel, yes, to not have a handle on things." Gabriel motioned for him to take a seat again, waiting until he moved to an armchair across from him. "If it weren't for seeing first hand what the sisters have done to him, I would suspect he trying to gain your sympathy through his usual, deceptive means." The corner of his mouth quirked up. "And even if he is that frightened, it's still in his nature to exaggerate."
"I don't think he was exaggera

There was a small gust of wind as Parker levitated himself first back onto the roof, then down into the warehouse with the others. He had his bow slung over one shoulder and a hand over the wound on his chest, and despite the obvious pain he was in, he managed a smirk. "That's the first and last time I go dumpster diving."
Lina rolled her eyes, but was glad to see he was alright. She gestured towards the gash on her arm. "Guess I know what we're doing on our day off."
Parker snorted and nodded. "So let's get that evidence we came here for and get the hell out of here. I've had my fill of monsters for the day."
"You and me both."
Snow, meanwhile, was already on it. She pulled a Polaroid camera from her pack, but couldn't stop her hands from shaking. Try as she might, without the distraction of combat, the monstrous visage she'd seen of Alistair crept its way to the front of her mind again, making it near impossible for her to steady her hands l
