Let's see what happens if I guess something completely different.
The writer knew the answer, but on a whim, decided to see what would happen if he guessed wrong. "I don't know," he said with a laugh and a shrug, quickly running some ideas through his head. The brief mention of Latin made him grab for a word from his vocabulary in that. "Canis? A sneaky way of calling yourselves bitches without the moral guardians getting up in arms?"
Enya immediately burst in giggles, clapping her hands enthusiastically. "On the nose! Susan came up with it, though she'd initially suggested the plural Canes, for that very reason. We went with the singular Canis because we realized people would probably read it as canes and not can-es. Canis sounds more like a band name anyway."
Nathan started, surprised and confused. The name of her band had changed, and not only that, of all the names he could have guessed, he actually selected the right one. His shock must've read clear on his face, because Scott shook his shoulder, chuckling lightly.
"You alright, Kink?" he asked. "You look like you weren't expecting to be right."
"I wasn't. I just pulled that name completely out of thin air."
"Well, not entirely," Enya corrected. "You are starting to remember things." She giggled again. "Remember?"
Still stunned, Nathan slowly shook his head. He knew better, but he smiled lightly and agreed anyway. "Yeah, I guess so."
"Anyway," Scott cut in. "Let's get these dishes cleaned up and head out. You said you wanted to do something other than sit around. I'm ready to check out the hospital again, see if we can't better pinpoint that entity I sensed before."
"And maybe see my brother faint again," Enya teased. Before said brother could respond, her cellphone went off, and she quickly excused herself to fish it out of her purse and answer. "Hey! What's up?" she replied into the receiver, bobbing her head, making small uh-huhs while she listened to the caller on the other end of the line. Scott, meanwhile, rolled his eyes and continued helping Nathan with the dishes.
"Sometimes, I swear her friends know the best time to call to get her out of chores," he said with a chuckle. "Their timing is impeccable. I'll rinse, you load them into the dishwasher?"
Nathan nodded and took his place by the appliance. "Sure. And we can drop the bags of empty delivery cartons in the dumpster on the way out. I don't want my apartment smelling like delicious Chinese food; I'll get hungry again."
They finished with the dishes and gathered up all the trash, just about the same time Enya let out a delighted squeal and came rushing up to them, face alight with excitement. "Oh my God! You're not going to believe what Rita got arranged for us!"
"Something expensive, no doubt," Scott said, smirking. His twin laughed giddily.
"Remember that gig she got us for New Year's Eve? Now she's gotten us a gratis photo shoot so we can actually have decent posters for it! Everyone else is game; they're just waiting on my call."
Her excitement was contagious, and Scott gave her a wide grin. "That's fantastic, En! I know the newspaper ads helped, but this is something you can actually post around town, get more people who don't read the paper to come to the event. When's the shoot?"
"In about thirty minutes."
His smile quickly faded. "Oh. So you want to go do this instead of investigate the hospital then."
Enya's smile lightened as she propped her hands on her hips, looking at her twin understandingly. "You can go without me, Scott. I don't have the senses you do anyway, and it isn't like we're entirely sure it's something at the hospital. The entity could have just happened to be there at the same time we were. Or..." She slid a glance towards Nathan. "We could all go to this shoot together and see what we can learn about an entity we do know. Three guesses as to who Rita pulled strings with to get this, and the first two don't count."
Nathan was ready to guess, but Scott groaned and answered before him, rubbing his hand across his face. "Not Gloria..."
"Uh-huh." Enya nodded emphatically. "And she'll be there to supervise, along with her known-to-be-a-Sin girlfriend Gula. You and Nathan can do some investigating into her while the girls and I keep Gloria distracted with the shoot."
"I don't like this." Scott looked to Nathan for support. "I really don't like this."
His twin scoffed. "You just don't want to be anywhere near your ex."
"True." Scott wrinkled his nose. "But that's not why I don't like this. Gula hasn't done anything..."
"... yet. Yes, but we don't know if she will, so it's better to learn as much as we can about her..."
"... as opposed to learning more about this unknown entity? I disagree. We know enough about Gula for now. I think we should at least find out what was at the hospital..."
"... if it's still there. Scott, we don't even know if that's where we'll find it again."
"At least it's a start."
"Why start something new when we already have one lead?"
Scott sighed and rubbed his face again. Nathan could tell there was no way the twins would reach an agreement on this, even before both of them turned towards him to be mediator. "What do you think, Kink?" his coworker asked. "You want to investigate this new entity at the hospital..."
"Or," Enya continued. "Investigate Gula more thoroughly at the photo shoot." She glanced at her brother again. "You could go to the hospital alone, you know, if Nathan wants too investigate at the shoot. I only can't because I'll be getting pictures taken."
"I'm not sure I'm comfortable investigating solo," Scott mumbled, but didn't really seem to object to the suggestion. He gave a worried glance to Nathan again. "So, your thoughts?"
Either sounds like a good plan to me, but I can see the twins both want my support for their ideas. Enya will have her band mates around, and I doubt Gula will do anything anyway, but I understand how she wants someone else there to actually investigate. On the other hand, Scott is adamant about learning about this new entity, and if just its presence made him faint last time, I don't blame him for not wanting to go alone. If he does though, we can kill two birds with one stone and investigate both. What should I say?
