He should know what's going on. I'd better play ignorant to give him the hint.
At least this time when Nathan looked confused, it wasn't entirely fake. There were plenty of questions he had for Gabriel, but all of them could wait until there weren't other people around. So, hoping he would catch on (and figuring it was his presence that had knocked Scott out), the writer raised his hand in an uneasy wave. "Hello... again?"
The angel blinked and tilted his head for a moment before realization flashed across his face and he chuckled lightly. "Right, your head injury," he said, still laughing. "I'm Alton's friend. We were introduced shortly before you were trampled." His lips twitched, as though this were a difficult thing for him to say. "The name's Gabriel."
Nathan let his shoulders ease and he nodded, smiling back at him. "Then hello, Gabriel."
"Hello indeed." Gloria walked back over towards Gabriel and slipped her arm around his, leaning in against him and smiling coyly. She turned her glowing expression towards the others while she giggled. "Gabe here's an old friend of mine too, having shot several of my shoots. I managed to pull him out of retirement for this one, since my last photographer, Marq, up and quit last month."
Gabriel's cheeks turned red and he bit his lip, shrugging, but not refuting or elaborating on her explanation. Nathan simply nodded again.
"Lucky for Enya and her band then," he said.
As curious as he was to talk to Gabriel in private, Nathan went along with the rest of the shoot as if everything were normal. Scott woke up shortly after the pizza arrived, and (much to the writer's amusement) was instantly doted on by the other band members. Well, everyone except for Rita. She had gotten her one slice and proceeded to pick up her guitar, playing impromtu melodies while the others ate. Nathan wasn't surprised in the least that Gula put away an entire pizza herself, though was shocked that Gloria kept pace with her. Gabriel didn't eat anything. When the pizza was gone, the girls all gathered again, cleaning up and heading back over to the set to get more photos taken.
"Just a few more group shots, then I want to get portraits of each of you," Gabriel said while he adjusted one of the lighting rigs. "I'll have a sample disc ready for you to review by tomorrow, so you can decide which ones you want printed out, and in what size."
"We're looking to make one of these a poster we can hang to promote the New Year's Eve gig we landed," Enya told him. Rita nodded emphatically and bounced on her heels as she took her place on the set.
"And!" she declared enthusiastically. "If we can get any prints to sell as souvenirs, that would be amazing too!" The Sin squealed with delight. "Now I just need to finish finding us a place to record a sample album and we'll really be off to a good start in the new year!"
Enya laughed. "You do that, Rita, and I swear, when we make it big, we're not going to need a manager. We've go you."
That made the Sin grin even wider and again giggle with delight.
Sitting out of the way, Scott and Nathan shared the couch, watching while the girls got back to their photo shoot. Neither spoke to the other, but briefly exchanged glances. Nathan could tell his coworker was still uneasy, and was sure he noticed that it was Gabriel giving him the headaches. He wondered if he should bring it up, discuss it with him while the band was busy, but didn't get a chance to as Gula walked over to them, sitting down between them.
"So," the Sin drawled, looking back and forth from one to the other. "New names, new games? Alton told me things would be different now." She snapped her head towards Scott. "Have you found all my sisters yet, Mr. Dasari? You know that's Karol's job, right?"
Scott leaned away from her, raising one eyebrow with suspicion. "His job?" he echoed, glancing at Nathan briefly. "What do you mean?"
"Oh, he has to find us all. Find all seven of us before the deadline, make the choices, do what's right but seems so wrong, not wrong but seems so right. Hmm..." Gula hummed a little melody, bopping her head before she turned towards Nathan. "Be-Be said I could tell you, just not the when and where and how. You have to figure that out for yourself. You've got two of us figured out already. Only five to go."
Scott again gave Nathan a worried look, not understanding at all what the Sin was talking about, clearly wondering if his friend could make any sense of it himself.
I'm not surprised Alton gave Gula permission to say anything; she seems to naturally speak in riddles. I think I understand, since Alton did say I'd have to face challenges presented by the Sins: she's just probing to see if I've found any others besides herself and Rita. Though... the only challenge Alton said I've completed is Avaritia's. Does that mean I'll have one with Gula, or is she saying I don't now? Should I ask? And what about Scott? Maybe I should bring him in the loop already...
Pretending I have amnesia is a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Hello everyone! Just wanted to say I've been feeling much better lately (emotionally and physically). I won't go into too many details, but suffice to say, I feel things are generally improving. I'm on vacation from one of my jobs all this month, and though this would normally mean I'd have a lot more free time, current events dictate that I will be extra busy and will need those extra hours off from work to get the necessary things done. I won't say what now (don't want to bring down my mood), but I'll update everyone when the time comes.
Oh, and in two days, it's my birthday, so I'm excited about that ^_^. Birthday wishes and llamas would be very welcome this Tuesday!
Anyway, I guess I should say something about this chapter...
Not much really to say, but you get a little bit of a glimpse into what Gabriel's been up to. No, it's no coincidence that he's a lot calmer than the last time Nathan saw him. Gula, of course, is as weird as ever, and seems to lack restraint when blurting things out. Poor Scott is extra confused.
So, what do you think? Think Nathan should come clean with at least Scott, or continue with this amnesia game?
THE CHOICE HAS BEEN MADE: Read Part 11 to see his decision!
This wasn't quite what I expected ... I wonder what Gula's up to.
Wasn't quite what I expected either, but that's what happens when you write by the seat of your pants.
Though, I'm curious: what did you expect?
Though, I'm curious: what did you expect?
Well, to be honest, I wasn't sure what I was expecting. Something chaotic, I suppose. Not exactly something violent, but something.
Eh, too early for all hell to break loose. Again.
That's true, but I wouldn't say I was expecting hell. Close to hell, maybe. But not hell itself. Yet.
