UPDATE: Trying a little experiment here, offering the full-sized version for downloadable purchase.
There's a story behind this piece, and I'm not just talking Edge of Thorns. Ever since I got my new laptop early this year, I've been wanting to make a wallpaper for it. Trouble is, my screen resolution is huge compared to my old one (original: 1366 x 768; new: 1920 x 1080 O_O!). That being said, my old wallpapers look fine stretched out, but I really wanted to render something that fit my screen. I also wanted to revisit the "Blue-Eyed Devil" concept I'd had of Alton, so I opted to do a new version of that, especially after updating him to the Genesis 2 model. Setting up the scene was reasonably easy, and I like this so much more than the old render I did of him in a suit. There was just one problem...
Rendering took forever.
Forget the fact that I had to do this twice (the first time, I didn't realize until it was nearly finished that the light sources were too few); to get to this stage, I had to run LuxRender for almost twenty hours.
Yeah. Twice.
I am unbelievably happy with the final result though, and thankfully only had to do minor tweaking in Photoshop to fix the contrast (in order for the wings to show on black, I needed fog, but getting the right contrast in fog caused the skin to be over-exposed, etc.). In fact, I love this so much, I think I'll get down to making similar wallpapers with the other angels.
Maybe I'll be pickier about my background color this time...
DAZ|Studio, rendered in LuxRender via Reality. Minor postwork (for contrast)
