Edge of Thorns 2- Pt 29Part 29
Probably best if I go home, but company would be nice.
"Right." Nathan nodded to himself, then smiled. "Let's go back to my place. We can have coffee or something, and I can fill you in."
Enya returned his smile, and he couldn't help but shiver. That smile. Marni's smile. He tried to shake it off as he offered her his arm. "Shall we then?"
"Yes," she said, taking his arm with flourish. "Let's."
Nathan made them some coffee before they sat down to chat, but didn't wait to begin telling her the strange dream he'd had about Avarice. He told her all the details he could remember, especially the Sin's warning not to tell Alton. Enya listened intently, waiting until he'd finished before she asked, "Do you think you can trust her?"
The writer had just finished his coffee and was taking it back to the kitchen, and he turned, surprised. "That... was not what I thought you'd say. I thought it was going to be more along the lines of 'are you sure you're not psy

No, I don't want to go, but...
"Sure," Nathan said with as much confidence as he could muster. "Sounds like fun. How far is it?"

I have to protect Gloria from my mistake, whatever the cost.
Nathan held his hands up defensively, as if that might stop him from trying again. "Now just wait a minute," he said, trying to quell the shake in his voice. "She didn't do anything wrong. This was my mistake. There's got to be some way I can fix it."
Gabriel drew a deep breath and closed his eyes again, lifting his hand to brush the dark section of his hair out of his face. "If you try to kill yourself again to protect another person..."
"I was hoping for something that wouldn't involve jamming another shard of glass in my neck."
The angel let out the sigh, shifting to his more human appearance as he crossed his arms and looked at Nathan again. "I'm afraid there's nothing I know of that you can do. Typically, sparing a life requires a willing sacrifice, such as the one you made for Avery. Since I have to keep you alive, I was still forced to take another, but the effect was t
